We are delighted to share that Dr Soroosh Afyouni, PhD, Head of Health Data Science at bioXcelerate AI, was a panellist at the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) International Conference 2024, to discuss AI in healthcare. The RSS Conference is the UK’s premier event for statistics and data science, bringing together over 600 professionals from more than 30 countries. It serves as a key platform for experts to discuss innovative ideas, share knowledge, and foster collaboration within the data science and statistics community.
Dr Afyouni, a leading data scientist at bioXcelerate AI, has an impressive background in statistical neuroimaging and machine learning. He completed his PhD in Statistical Neuroimaging at the University of Warwick in 2017, specialising in statistical network and time series analysis, following a Master of Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 2012.
From 2017 to 2020, Soroosh conducted postdoctoral research at the Big Data Institute, University of Oxford, where he developed time series models for large-scale datasets, including the UK Biobank, and was awarded a Merit Award by the International Organization for Human Brain Mapping. In 2021, he joined the University of Cambridge to focus on developing machine learning methods for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
In addition to his academic career, Soroosh has applied his expertise in industry, spending close to two years at a US-based management consulting firm, where he worked with major pharmaceutical companies on R&D and commercial strategies. Soroosh joined bioXcelerate AI in 2023, where he leads efforts to apply statistical and machine learning methods to precision medicine.
