Breakthrough Research Spotlighted in Pharma IQ

Our Managing Director & Chief Scientist, Dr Chris Foley, and Dr Riccardo Marioni, Chair of Molecular Epidemiology of Ageing at the University of Edinburgh, were recently interviewed by Pharma IQ about their groundbreaking research. This study, a collaboration between bioXcelerate AI, Biogen, and the University of Edinburgh, marks a significant advancement in predictive health.

In the interview, Dr Foley and Dr Marioni delve into their ground-breaking research, which leverages advanced machine learning techniques to identify protein patterns linked to over 20 diseases. This innovative approach has the potential to predict disease risks up to 10 years before symptoms emerge, offering new opportunities for early intervention and personalised care.

The study analysed blood samples from nearly 50,000 participants to uncover specific protein signatures that correlate with future health risks. This includes proteins like GDF15, which has been linked to a wide range of conditions, including Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

Dr Foley and Dr Marioni discussed how these findings could revolutionise disease prediction and prevention, highlighting the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in driving such breakthroughs.
